About
Ashraf Arshad
Ashraf Arshad’s research and interest lie within aesthetic discourses and the dissolving of subject-object dialectics through cinematic works of magical realism. Like in any expression of art, he also believes that the language of film is boundless and interpersonal. Enthralled by open-ended and symbolic narratives, his body of works traverses the line between realism and fantasy and can be characterized by a common dismissal of the expository. His recognized directorial works include Limbo (2021) which premiered internationally at the 20th Tirana International Film Festival (TIFF) and screened at the 31st Singapore International Film Festival (SGIFF).
Ashraf also takes respite in producing for filmmakers he sees building a rapport with, connecting visionaries with the resources they need so that they can tell the next compelling story. He also produced The Passing (2023), a short film recently nominated for the Singapore Youth Film Festival in 2024.
